I neo-liberisti \u00a0danno grande rilievo al fatto che l\u2019inflazione colpisce il grande pubblico. Ma questa retorica populista trascura il fatto che le politiche economiche necessarie per conseguire una bassa inflazione portano alla diminuzione del reddito dei lavoratori, mediante la riduzione delle prospettive di impiego e l\u2019abbassamento del livello dei salari.<\/p>\n

It is well known that they tend to listen very closely to the view of the financial sector, and implement policies that help it, if necessary at the cost of the manufacturing industry or wage earners.\u00a0So, giving them independence allows them to pursue policies that benefit their own natural constituencies without appearing to do so.<\/em>
\nThe policy bias would be even worse if we explicitly tell them that they should not worry about any policy objective other than inflation.<\/em>
\nCentral bank independece raises an important issue for democratic accountability. The flip side of the argument that central bankers can take good decisions only because their job do not depend on making the electorate happy is that they can pursue policies that hurt the majority of people with impunity [\u2026]<\/em>\u201c.<\/p>\n

Che i banchieri centrali siano dei tecnocrati al di sopra delle parti \u00e8 solo un mito. \u00a0Si sa benissimo che essi tendono ad ascoltare con molta attenzione il settore finanziario e a implementare politiche che gli siano di vantaggio, se necessario anche a spese del settore industriale o dei lavoratori.\u00a0L\u2019indipendenza permette loro di adottare, senza darlo a vedere, politiche che vanno a beneficio dei loro naturali sostenitori.
\nLa pregiudiziale diventa ancora pi\u00f9 forte \u00a0se si conferisce loro l\u2019esplicito mandato di preoccuparsi solo dell\u2019inflazione.
\nL\u2019indipendenza della Banca centrale solleva un importante problema di responsabilit\u00e0 democratica. L\u2019argomento per cui i banchieri centrali possono prendere buone decisioni solo perch\u00e9 il loro lavoro non dipende dalla soddisfazione dell\u2019elettorato ha come contropartita il fatto che essi possono adottare impunemente politiche pregiudizievoli per la maggior parte della gente.<\/p>\n
